Sinfully decadent, delicious, these ultra rich, ooeey gooey classic American fudgy walnut brownies are definitely a must-try whenever dessert cravings strike.Walnut brownies are generally paired with chocolate/Nutella sauce and ice creams to make it a delectable delight. Nothing tastes best as good as home made so here is the recipe which you can try at home. I have prepared Hershey’s chocolate sauce since my son loves it and drizzled the sauce over brownies and yes, it did taste heavenly!

No one knows for sure how this recipe originated but we all know it’s from America hence these brownies are also called American Walnut brownies

When I first wanted to prepare these brownies, I came across several recipes across the net and tried many, yet wasn’t happy with the texture. To be honest, my son loves brownies so he is ok with either cakey or fudgy brownies. But for myself, I wanted the texture of the original brownies hence I did try several ones and finally achieved the texture that I wanted with the below recipe so do try and let me know the result

*I have skipped baking powder, you can add 1/2 tsp baking powder to the brownie

**If you feel the brownie lightly bitter, reduce the amount of cocoa powder in the recipe. You can use APF or whole wheat flour as desired

***Do not over bake the brownies, else the texture of brownies would change. Brown sugar is better than white sugar for these brownies

Do watch the video for better clarity in preparation and share your experience once you prepare the dessert

Preparation time: 15 mins Baking time: 25 mins Total time: 40 mins

Servings: 12 brownies

  • 125 g Dark Chocolate, chopped
  • 80g soft unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tbsp Instant coffee powder
  • 100g flour
  • 8 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 1.5-2 tbsp cocoa power
  • 2 eggs/ 1/2 cup whisked yogurt
  • 60 g Brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (optional)

Steps to prepare

  • In a bowl, add chocolate and butter. Using double boiler or microwave, melt the chocolate
  • Whisk until lump free. Mix coffee powder well, keep this aside
  • Preheat oven to 160 deg cel. Line 7″ or 6″ baking tin based on the depth of brownies required
  • In a separate bowl, whisk eggs well. If using yogurt instead of eggs, add yogurt in a bowl
  • To this add sugar and whisk until well combined
  • Add vanilla essence and mix well
  • Sieve dry ingredients and add to egg/yogurt mixture
  • Add chocolate mixture and whisk until well combined. Do not over mix
  • Add 5 tbsp walnuts and mix
  • Pour the batter into prepared tin and level evenly
  • Sprinkle remaining walnuts on the top
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until done. Do not over bake as we do not want brownies to harden
  • Allow brownies to cool in the tin for 10 minutes. Demould and cool completely. Slice the brownies as desired
  • I generally cover brownies with cling wrap and refrigerate once brownies reach room temperature and allow flavours to set in for 6-7 hours. This makes them taste heavenly
  • Store leftovers in air tight container and refrigerate. Consume with 3-4 days
